Big Wave Invitational at Jaws

BIG WAVE INVITATIONAL AT JAWS

  

Red Bull is to bring a new big wave event to the Hawaiian Islands. As reported in Surfer Magazine, “Eddie-style paddle-in contest will be held this winter on Maui at Jaws. The event will feature 21 invite-only surfers and will have a waiting period that will run from December 7 to March 15.

This new event will be a paddle- in only contest which will be invite only.  This is in response to the new batch of big wave hell men who have been charging these massive swells with out jet ski assist.  The invite list is not yet complted nor is the purse for the event.

           

            A red  bull spokesperson said that this event will not run as the same day as the Eddie event.  The Eddie Aikau big wave invitational has been a long lasting event which has been a life time acheivement for only a hand full of surfers.  Quiksilver has busted down the doors with a huge success with this event.  With this new crop of paddle in big wave guys and the big wave tour gaining momentum another elite invitational will only help increase the awarness of the feats these men are accomplishing.

  

Quiksilver has set the bar time after time with the succes of the Eddie event and its only so fitting for others to want to match.  The Eddie went from a big wave contest to a gathering of elite surfers in rememberence to a surf hero and big wave ledgend.
